INTRODUCTION OF THE H.P. STATE COMMISSION FOR WOMEN, SHIMLA-1, H.P.

Consequent upon enactment of National Commission for Women Act, 1990, the Women Commissions were established through out the Country including National Commission for Women (NCW). Upon this development, the Government of Himachal Pradesh enacted an Act namely H.P. State Commission for Women Act, 1996 and the office of the Commission was set up vide Notification No: WLF(2)-2/88-11 dated 17.12.1997. In the mean time, the Commission was abolished by the State Government and later on, it was again established vide Notification No: WLF (2)-2/88-11 dated 8th March 1999.

Constitution of Commission:

The H.P. State Commission for Women, H.P is constituted by comprising one Chairperson and 3 to 4 nominated Members amongst the educationists, social workers, NGOs, environmentalists, jurists etc. The Aims and Objects of the Commission are as under:-

  1. Prevention of harassment to women.
  2. Eradication of Dowry System.
  3. Protection of Constitutional Rights of the women.
  4. Redressal of Grievances of the women.
  5. Rehabilitation of the disrupted women.
  6. Bringing social, legal, constitutional, health, livelihood awareness amongst the women.
  7. Submission of recommendations to the State Government for the upliftment of the women.
