The State Archaeology, attached to the Language & Culture Department of H.P., is an organization for the archaeological researches and protection of the archaeological heritage of the Himachal Pradesh. Maintenance of ancient monuments and archaeological sites and remains of state importance is the prime concern of the State Archaeology. To achieve this object State has “The Himachal Pradesh Ancient and Historical Monuments, Archaeological Site & Remains Act-1976” & “The Himachal Pradesh Ancient and Historical Monuments, Archaeological Site & Remains Rules-1985”. It also regulates Antiquities and Art Treasure Act, 1972 in state, as a centrally sponsored scheme. The State Archaeology started its functioning in 1982. At present, it has Archaeology branch, Engineering branch and Photo section.
